Suspension Bush Replacement
Also called suspension rubber change
Bushes are the rubber sleeves that let suspension arms pivot while absorbing shock and noise. Heat, broken road edges and constant speed breakers split and flatten them, after which the arm moves more than it should. The result is knocking, a wandering feel and tyre wear that alignment cannot correct. Replacing the bushes restores that control. Where the bush is not serviceable separately, the whole arm has to be replaced instead.
Signs you need this
- Dull knock from the front over rough road and speed breakers
- Steering feels vague and the car wanders on the motorway
- Visible cracks, splits or rubber missing from a bush
- Tyres wear unevenly soon after an alignment
- Clunk when pulling away or braking gently
Not all of these have to be present, and one of them on its own can mean something else entirely. That is what the diagnosis is for.
What the job includes
- Inspection of each bush under load with a pry bar on a lift
- Pressing out old bushes and pressing in new ones
- Arm replacement where the bush is not supplied separately
- Fasteners tightened with the suspension at normal ride height
- Inspection of nearby ball joints and links while access is open
- Wheel alignment after the work
How we do it
Find the worn bush
Each joint is levered on a lift so movement can be seen, since a flat bush looks normal at rest.
Remove the arm
The affected arm is unbolted and taken to the press, with surrounding joints inspected while the corner is apart.
Press in new bushes
Old bushes are pressed out and new ones aligned correctly, because a bush fitted crooked tears quickly.
Torque and align
Bolts are tightened at ride height so the rubber is not preloaded, then the wheels are aligned.
How we work
The same on every job, which is why we can write it down.
Diagnosis before quote
We find the fault first. A price given over the phone for a noise nobody has heard is a guess.
The price is agreed first
You approve the work and the cost before a spanner is picked up. Extra work means another call.
Parts you can check
We tell you whether a part is genuine, OEM, aftermarket or used, and what each one costs.
Old parts returned
Ask and we will hand back whatever we replaced. It is the simplest proof that the job was done.
