Strut Replacement
Also called front suspension strut
On most cars sold here the front suspension uses a strut, which combines the shock absorber, spring and top mount into one unit that also forms part of the steering geometry. Struts leak, the top mount bearing seizes and makes the steering notchy, and the spring can break on bad roads. Replacement restores ride and steering feel, and because the geometry is disturbed, wheel alignment afterwards is part of the job, not an optional extra.

- Tyre wearing on one edge despite recent alignment
- Loud bang from the front after hitting a pothole

How we do it
Diagnose the corner
Ride height, strut condition, spring integrity and top mount play are checked before any parts are ordered.
Remove the unit
The strut is unbolted from the hub and body, with the brake hose and sensor wiring released carefully.
Rebuild the strut
Springs are handled with proper compressors and the top mount, bearing, boot and bump stop are checked or renewed.
Align the wheels
Camber and toe are reset after fitting, because strut work changes the angles the front wheels sit at.
