Shock Absorber Replacement
Also called shocker change
A shock absorber damps the bouncing of the spring so the tyre stays in contact with the road. When it weakens the car floats over bumps, keeps bouncing after a speed breaker, dives under braking and wears tyres in patches. Replacement restores control and stopping stability. It does not silence knocks that come from bushes, links or ball joints, and it does not correct alignment, which is checked separately.
Signs you need this
- Car keeps bouncing after a speed breaker instead of settling
- Nose dives heavily under braking
- Oily wetness running down the body of the shock absorber
- Uneven cupped wear patches across the tyre tread
- Rear end feels loose or floaty on the motorway
Not all of these have to be present, and one of them on its own can mean something else entirely. That is what the diagnosis is for.
What the job includes
- Bounce and visual leak test on all four corners
- Shock absorbers replaced as a pair on the same axle
- Mounting bushes, top mounts and bump stops inspected
- Nuts and mountings torqued to specification
- Road test over rough surface and speed breakers
- Advice on whether wheel alignment is needed afterwards
How we do it
Test and inspect
Each corner is bounced and the shock bodies are checked for oil leakage, dents and damaged mountings.
Replace in pairs
Both units on the axle are replaced together so the car settles evenly side to side.
Check the surrounding parts
Top mounts, bushes and bump stops are inspected, because worn ones will knock even with new shocks fitted.
Road test the result
The car is driven over rough road and speed breakers to confirm the bounce and noise have gone.
How we work
The same on every job, which is why we can write it down.
Diagnosis before quote
We find the fault first. A price given over the phone for a noise nobody has heard is a guess.
The price is agreed first
You approve the work and the cost before a spanner is picked up. Extra work means another call.
Parts you can check
We tell you whether a part is genuine, OEM, aftermarket or used, and what each one costs.
Old parts returned
Ask and we will hand back whatever we replaced. It is the simplest proof that the job was done.
