Central Locking Repair
Also called central lock not working
Central locking uses an actuator in each door, a control module, and a remote or key signal. Typical faults are a worn actuator on one door, a broken wire in the flexible loom at the door hinge, a failed remote battery or receiver, and water damage inside a door. We test which part of the chain has failed rather than replacing the module first. This repair does not address a damaged lock barrel or a key that will not turn, which is mechanical lock work.
What the job includes
- Test of each door individually from key, remote and interior switch
- Actuator operation and current draw checked in the affected door
- Flexible door hinge loom tested for broken conductors
- Remote battery, signal and receiver checked before the module is suspected
- Replacement of the failed actuator, switch or wiring section
- Full system retested including boot and deadlocking where fitted
Signs you need this
- One door does not lock or unlock with the others
- The doors lock and unlock on their own while driving
- A buzzing or repeated clicking from inside a door
- The remote works sometimes or only from very close
- Nothing responds to the remote but the key still works
Not all of these have to be present, and one of them on its own can mean something else entirely. That is what the diagnosis is for.
How we do it
Map the symptom
We test each door from key, remote and switch, because the pattern of what fails points straight at the cause.
Check remote and receiver
Remote battery and signal are checked first, since these are cheap and are often the whole problem.
Test the door circuit
Power and earth at the actuator, and continuity of the hinge loom, show whether the actuator or wiring failed.
Replace the failed part
The actuator, switch or damaged wiring section is replaced, with door water shields properly resealed.
Retest the whole system
All doors, the boot and any deadlocking are tested together to confirm the whole system works as intended.
