Car Wiring Repair
Also called car wiring problem
Wiring repair means finding the actual break, short or corroded joint in a circuit and repairing it to last. Common causes are chafing where a loom crosses a sharp edge, corroded earth points, rodent damage to insulation, water in connectors, and badly spliced accessory wiring. We test the circuit against the wiring diagram rather than replacing parts hopefully. A repair fixes the circuit; it does not renew the whole loom, and we will tell you if damage is too extensive to patch.
Signs you need this
- A component works sometimes and not others
- A fuse blows repeatedly as soon as it is replaced
- Lights or gauges flicker, or dim when another item is switched on
- Burning smell or melted insulation found in the engine bay
- Faults appeared after an accessory, audio system or CNG kit was fitted
Not all of these have to be present, and one of them on its own can mean something else entirely. That is what the diagnosis is for.
What the job includes
- Fault traced against the wiring diagram for your model
- Voltage drop and continuity testing on the affected circuit
- Earth points cleaned and remade where corrosion is found
- Damaged sections repaired with soldered or crimped joints and heat shrink
- Loom rerouted and protected where chafing caused the fault
- Function tested after repair, including with the engine running
How we do it
Define the fault
We establish exactly which circuits are affected and under what conditions, since that narrows the search enormously.
Work from the diagram
The circuit is traced on the wiring diagram for your model so testing follows the real path, not assumption.
Test, do not guess
Voltage drop and continuity tests locate the break, short or high resistance joint at a specific point in the loom.
Repair to last
The section is repaired with proper joints and heat shrink, then rerouted or protected so the cause cannot repeat.
Test under real conditions
The circuit is tested with the engine running and, where relevant, with the loom flexed, to confirm the fault is gone.
How we work
The same on every job, which is why we can write it down.
Diagnosis before quote
We find the fault first. A price given over the phone for a noise nobody has heard is a guess.
The price is agreed first
You approve the work and the cost before a spanner is picked up. Extra work means another call.
Parts you can check
We tell you whether a part is genuine, OEM, aftermarket or used, and what each one costs.
Old parts returned
Ask and we will hand back whatever we replaced. It is the simplest proof that the job was done.
