Power Window Repair
Also called window not going up
A power window uses a switch, a motor and a regulator mechanism that carries the glass. Failures are usually a worn regulator cable or clip, a tired motor, a failed switch, or a broken wire in the flexible section between door and body. Dust makes window channels stiff, which loads the motor and shortens its life. Repair restores movement. It does not fix wind noise or a door seal problem, which are separate issues even though they feel related.
Signs you need this
- The window moves slowly or stops partway
- A clicking or grinding from inside the door with no movement
- The glass has dropped down inside the door
- One window works from the door switch but not the master switch
- The window is crooked in its frame or will not seal
Not all of these have to be present, and one of them on its own can mean something else entirely. That is what the diagnosis is for.
What the job includes
- Switch, motor and regulator tested to identify which has failed
- Wiring in the door hinge flex loom checked for broken conductors
- Window channels and runners cleaned and lubricated
- Replacement of the failed motor, regulator or switch
- Glass alignment set so it seals against the rubber correctly
- All windows and the driver master switch tested after repair
How we do it
Test switch and motor
Power at the motor with the switch operated shows straight away whether the fault is the switch, wiring or motor.
Check the flex loom
Wires flexing between door and body break internally, which is a common cause of a window that works intermittently.
Open and inspect
The door card is removed carefully and the regulator, cables, clips and channels are inspected for wear or breakage.
Repair and lubricate
The failed part is replaced and the channels are cleaned and lubricated, since dust loading shortens motor life.
Align and test
The glass is aligned to seal properly, and all windows and the master switch are tested before the trim goes back.
How we work
The same on every job, which is why we can write it down.
Diagnosis before quote
We find the fault first. A price given over the phone for a noise nobody has heard is a guess.
The price is agreed first
You approve the work and the cost before a spanner is picked up. Extra work means another call.
Parts you can check
We tell you whether a part is genuine, OEM, aftermarket or used, and what each one costs.
Old parts returned
Ask and we will hand back whatever we replaced. It is the simplest proof that the job was done.
