Also called car battery boost
A jump-start uses an external power source to turn the engine when the battery is too weak to do it. It is a recovery step, not a repair. Once the engine is running, the technician tests the battery and alternator on the spot so you know whether the car simply needs a long drive, a new battery, or charging system work. If the car cannot be revived safely, it is recovered instead.
Signs you need this
- Engine will not crank and only a click is heard
- Dashboard lights are dim or go out when the key is turned
- Car was left with headlights or interior lights on
- Vehicle has been parked unused for several weeks
- Central locking and alarm behave oddly before the car refuses to start
