AC Gas Refill
Also called AC gas charging
An AC refill removes the old refrigerant and moisture, vacuums the system to check it holds, then recharges it with the exact weight of gas and oil the manufacturer specifies. Refrigerant is not consumed in normal use, so a system that is low has a leak. A refill on its own is a temporary measure unless that leak is found and repaired, and we will say so before taking the job.
Signs you need this
- Cooling has faded gradually over a season
- Air is cool but never cold, even with the fan on full
- Compressor clutch switches on and off rapidly
- AC cools at speed but not while standing in traffic
- System was opened for another repair and needs recharging
Not all of these have to be present, and one of them on its own can mean something else entirely. That is what the diagnosis is for.

- Vacuum hold test to confirm the system is not leaking badly
- Recharge with the specified refrigerant type and weight
- Compressor oil topped to specification where required

How we do it
Read the pressures
Gauges on the high and low sides show whether the system is undercharged, overcharged or blocked before anything is added.
Recover and vacuum
Old gas is recovered and the system is pulled into vacuum, which removes moisture and reveals whether it holds.
Charge by weight
Refrigerant is added by weight to the manufacturer's figure, not by guesswork, because overfilling reduces cooling and strains the compressor.
Test the result
Vent temperature, pressures and fan operation are checked with the engine idling and at driving speed.
