Clutch Kit Replacement
Also called complete clutch change
A clutch kit replaces the plate, pressure plate and release bearing together as a matched set. Because most of the cost of any clutch job is removing the gearbox, replacing all three at once avoids paying that labour twice when the next component fails. The flywheel, crankshaft rear seal and gearbox input seal are inspected at the same time. A clutch kit does not repair a worn flywheel or a leaking seal, and those are quoted separately if found.
Signs you need this
- Clutch slipping under load, particularly in high gear or uphill
- Burning smell after pulling away or climbing
- Judder when taking up drive from a standstill
- Noise from the bell housing when the pedal is pressed
- Biting point right at the top of the pedal travel
Not all of these have to be present, and one of them on its own can mean something else entirely. That is what the diagnosis is for.
What the job includes
- Road test and load test to confirm the clutch is the cause
- Matched kit: clutch plate, pressure plate and release bearing
- Flywheel face inspected, measured and machined or replaced if required
- Crankshaft rear seal and gearbox input seal checked for leaks
- Guide sleeve, fork and pivot cleaned and greased on reassembly
- Hydraulic system bled or cable adjusted, then road tested under load
How we do it
Confirm the diagnosis
A load test in a high gear confirms slipping, so the gearbox is not removed on the strength of a guess.
Remove and inspect
The gearbox comes off and the whole assembly, including the flywheel face and seals, is inspected and shown to you.
Quote anything extra
If the flywheel needs machining or a seal is leaking, you are told the additional cost before work continues.
Fit the kit
Plate, cover and bearing are fitted as a set, the plate centred, and bolts torqued in the correct sequence.
Set up and road test
The system is bled or adjusted, then a road test on a hill confirms full engagement with no slip or judder.
How we work
The same on every job, which is why we can write it down.
Diagnosis before quote
We find the fault first. A price given over the phone for a noise nobody has heard is a guess.
The price is agreed first
You approve the work and the cost before a spanner is picked up. Extra work means another call.
Parts you can check
We tell you whether a part is genuine, OEM, aftermarket or used, and what each one costs.
Old parts returned
Ask and we will hand back whatever we replaced. It is the simplest proof that the job was done.
Book clutch kit replacement
Fill this in and a person will call you back to confirm the time and the price. Only your name and one way to reach you are required.
You send this
Takes a minute. No payment, no obligation.
We call you
To confirm the car, the time and the location.
Tell us the car and the symptom
We will arrange a mechanic at your location, or a slot at the nearest workshop. No payment until the price is agreed.
