Coolant Flush & Replacement
Also called radiator water change
Coolant does more than carry heat: it stops corrosion inside the engine, radiator and heater core, and those additives wear out long before the liquid looks bad. A flush removes old coolant and any loose scale, then refills with the type and mix ratio your car requires and bleeds out trapped air. It will not seal an existing leak, repair a stuck thermostat, or clear a radiator that is already blocked solid.
Signs you need this
- Coolant looks rusty, muddy or has lost its colour
- Coolant has not been changed for several years
- Temperature runs higher than it used to in traffic
- Heater output is weaker than before
- Sediment or oily film visible in the expansion tank
Not all of these have to be present, and one of them on its own can mean something else entirely. That is what the diagnosis is for.
What the job includes
- Condition check of the old coolant before draining
- System drained at the radiator and block where a drain is fitted
- Flush with clean water until it runs clear
- Refill with the specified coolant type at the correct mix ratio
- Air bled from the system with the heater on full
- Pressure cap and hose inspection during the job
How we do it
Inspect the old coolant
Colour, sediment and any oil film are noted, since a milky look points at a head gasket problem.
Drain and flush
The system is drained and flushed with clean water until what comes out runs clear.
Refill with fresh coolant
Fresh coolant of the specified type is mixed to the right ratio, since neat coolant cools worse than a mix.
Bleed the air
Air is purged with the heater on full until the fan cycles and the level stays steady.
