Radiator Hose Replacement
Also called coolant pipe change
Coolant hoses carry hot liquid between the engine, radiator and heater, and rubber that has been heat-cycled for years goes hard, soft or swollen. A hose that bursts empties the system in seconds and can overheat the engine badly before you reach a safe stop. Replacing tired hoses and clamps prevents that. It does not fix a leak coming from the radiator, water pump, or a cracked plastic housing, which are separate repairs.
Signs you need this
- Coolant leak visible at a hose end or clamp
- Hose feels spongy, rock hard, or swollen near the joint
- Cracks appear in the rubber when the hose is squeezed
- Coolant level drops slowly with no puddle underneath
- Sweet smell after parking a hot engine
Not all of these have to be present, and one of them on its own can mean something else entirely. That is what the diagnosis is for.
What the job includes
- Inspection of all accessible hoses by squeezing them when cold
- Pressure test to confirm where coolant is escaping
- Replacement of the failed hose with the correct part
- New clamps rather than reusing rusted or stretched ones
- Coolant refilled to the correct mix and level
- System bled and checked for leaks at temperature
How we do it
Find the leak
The cold system is pressurised so the leaking hose or clamp reveals itself before anything is removed.
Check every hose
All reachable hoses are squeezed cold, because a soft or hard hose is close to failing too.
Replace and clamp
The hose is replaced with the correct shaped part and secured with new clamps at the correct tension.
Refill and recheck
Coolant is refilled and bled, then the engine is run to temperature and the joints are inspected again.
How we work
The same on every job, which is why we can write it down.
Diagnosis before quote
We find the fault first. A price given over the phone for a noise nobody has heard is a guess.
The price is agreed first
You approve the work and the cost before a spanner is picked up. Extra work means another call.
Parts you can check
We tell you whether a part is genuine, OEM, aftermarket or used, and what each one costs.
Old parts returned
Ask and we will hand back whatever we replaced. It is the simplest proof that the job was done.
