Overheating has several possible causes and guessing between them is expensive. This job works through them in order: coolant level and condition, leaks under pressure, thermostat operation, fan and radiator airflow, water pump circulation, and finally combustion gases in the coolant, which indicates a head gasket. The outcome is a named cause and a quote. Do not keep driving a hot engine, because a cheap repair becomes a major one within a few kilometres.

How we do it
Check coolant first
Level, mix ratio and condition are checked cold, since low or contaminated coolant explains many overheating complaints.
Pressure test the system
The system is pressurised cold to find external leaks and to see whether it holds pressure at all.
Test flow and airflow
Thermostat opening, water pump circulation, radiator blockage and fan operation are checked while the engine warms.
Rule out the gasket
A combustion gas test on the coolant shows whether exhaust gas is entering the cooling system through a failed gasket.
