Radiator Cleaning & Flushing
Also called radiator flush
Radiators lose efficiency in two ways here. Outside, the fins pack with dust from construction sites, insects and road grit until air cannot pass through. Inside, old coolant leaves scale that narrows the tubes. Cleaning addresses both, and for a badly silted core the radiator is removed and reverse flushed. It restores cooling capacity that was lost to blockage, but it cannot repair a leaking core or a cracked end tank.
Signs you need this
- Temperature climbs in slow traffic and settles on the move
- Visible dust, leaves or insects packed into the radiator face
- AC cooling drops at idle as the engine heats up
- Coolant looks rusty or leaves brown deposits
- Overheating returned soon after a coolant change
Not all of these have to be present, and one of them on its own can mean something else entirely. That is what the diagnosis is for.
What the job includes
- Inspection of the radiator and condenser faces for blockage
- Careful external cleaning of fins without bending them
- Reverse flush of the core where internal silting is present
- Radiator removal where access from the front is not enough
- Fan, shroud and mounting rubber inspection
- Refill with correct coolant mix, bleed and hot running test
How we do it
Inspect both faces
The radiator and the AC condenser in front of it are checked, since either can block the airflow.
Clean the outside
Fins are cleaned from the engine side outwards at controlled pressure so the delicate fins are not flattened.
Flush the inside
Where scale has narrowed the tubes, the core is reverse flushed until the water running out is clear.
Refill and test
Fresh coolant is added and the engine is run to temperature with the fan cycling to confirm the improvement.
