Brake Fluid Change
Also called brake oil change
Brake fluid absorbs moisture from the air over time. That water lowers the boiling point, so on a long descent the fluid can boil and the pedal goes to the floor, and it corrodes calipers, cylinders and ABS parts from the inside. A change flushes old fluid out of every wheel until clean fluid comes through. It does not repair worn pads, a leaking caliper or a failing master cylinder, though all are inspected during the job.
Signs you need this
- Fluid in the reservoir looks dark brown rather than clear
- Pedal softens after repeated braking down a long slope
- Fluid has not been changed for more than two years
- Moisture test shows a high water content
- Brakes feel inconsistent in wet or humid weather
Not all of these have to be present, and one of them on its own can mean something else entirely. That is what the diagnosis is for.
What the job includes
- Moisture and condition test on the existing fluid
- Reservoir emptied and refilled with the specification your car requires
- Each wheel bled in the correct sequence until clean fluid flows
- Clutch line bled as well on cars sharing the same reservoir
- Inspection of hoses, pipes and calipers for leaks or corrosion
- Pedal feel check and road test
How we do it
Test the old fluid
Moisture content and colour are checked so you can see why the change is being recommended.
Empty and refill
The reservoir is drawn down and refilled with fresh fluid of the grade the manufacturer specifies for your car.
Bleed every wheel
Each wheel is bled in the correct order until the fluid running out is visibly clean and free of air.
Inspect and road test
Hoses, pipes and calipers are checked for leaks, then pedal height and firmness are confirmed on the road.
How we work
The same on every job, which is why we can write it down.
Diagnosis before quote
We find the fault first. A price given over the phone for a noise nobody has heard is a guess.
The price is agreed first
You approve the work and the cost before a spanner is picked up. Extra work means another call.
Parts you can check
We tell you whether a part is genuine, OEM, aftermarket or used, and what each one costs.
Old parts returned
Ask and we will hand back whatever we replaced. It is the simplest proof that the job was done.
