General Vehicle Inspection
Also called full car checkup
A general inspection is a look over the whole car rather than a repair. We check fluid levels and condition, belts and hoses, brakes, tyres, suspension joints, lights, battery and the obvious leak points, then give you a written list sorted into urgent, soon, and monitor. It tells you the car's real condition before a long trip, before selling, or before you spend money on a repair. It does not fix anything on its own.
Signs you need this
- You are about to buy the car, sell it, or take it on a long trip
- The car is new to you and you do not know its service history
- Something feels different but you cannot describe it precisely
- A dashboard warning light came on and went off again
- It has been more than a year since the car was properly looked at
Not all of these have to be present, and one of them on its own can mean something else entirely. That is what the diagnosis is for.
What the job includes
- Fluid level and condition check: engine oil, coolant, brake fluid, transmission, washer
- Visual check of belts, hoses, mounts and common leak points
- Brake pad and disc thickness, tyre tread depth and uneven wear
- Suspension and steering joints checked for play and torn boots
- Battery condition, charging voltage, lights, horn and wipers
- Written report grouped into urgent, soon, and monitor
How we do it
Ask what you noticed
We record the symptoms you have seen or heard, when they happen, and what has been done to the car recently.
Road test the car
A short drive covering rough surface, braking and gear changes, because many faults only show up under load.
Check on the ramp
The car goes up so we can inspect brakes, suspension, exhaust, drive shafts and the underside for leaks and corrosion.
Check under the bonnet
Fluids, belts, hoses, battery, charging voltage and mounts, plus a scan for stored fault codes where the car supports it.
Hand over the report
You get a written list split into urgent, soon and monitor, with the reason for each item and no obligation to book work.
How we work
The same on every job, which is why we can write it down.
Diagnosis before quote
We find the fault first. A price given over the phone for a noise nobody has heard is a guess.
The price is agreed first
You approve the work and the cost before a spanner is picked up. Extra work means another call.
Parts you can check
We tell you whether a part is genuine, OEM, aftermarket or used, and what each one costs.
Old parts returned
Ask and we will hand back whatever we replaced. It is the simplest proof that the job was done.
