Hose Replacement

Also called radiator pipe change

Rubber hoses harden, soften or crack with heat and age. A coolant hose that bursts causes immediate overheating; a split vacuum hose causes rough idling and false sensor readings; a perished fuel hose is a fire risk. We replace the affected hoses and clamps with correct-specification parts. Replacing hoses does not fix a radiator, water pump or thermostat that is also failing, and we will tell you if one of those is the real reason your engine is running hot.

Signs you need this

  • A hose feels spongy, rock hard, or swollen near the ends
  • Coolant loss or steam from the engine bay
  • Rough or hunting idle, which often points at a vacuum hose
  • A hissing sound from the engine bay at idle
  • Fuel smell around the engine or under the car

Not all of these have to be present, and one of them on its own can mean something else entirely. That is what the diagnosis is for.

What the job includes

  • Inspection of all reachable hoses by squeezing and checking for swelling or cracks
  • Replacement of the failed hose with correct-specification rubber
  • New clamps where the originals are corroded or have lost tension
  • Coolant refilled and air bled from the system, where coolant hoses are involved
  • Pressure test or run-up to confirm the joints hold

How we do it

  1. Find the failed hose

Hoses are checked by hand and eye, and a pressure or smoke test is used where the split is not visible.

  2. Drain what is needed

Coolant is drained to below the hose, or the fuel system is depressurised, so the joint can be opened safely.

  3. Fit hose and clamps

The new hose is routed clear of hot and moving parts, with clamps positioned correctly and tightened evenly.

  4. Refill, bleed and test

The system is refilled, air is bled out, and the engine is run to temperature while every joint is watched.

How we work

The same on every job, which is why we can write it down.

  • Diagnosis before quote

We find the fault first. A price given over the phone for a noise nobody has heard is a guess.

  • The price is agreed first

You approve the work and the cost before a spanner is picked up. Extra work means another call.

  • Parts you can check

We tell you whether a part is genuine, OEM, aftermarket or used, and what each one costs.

  • Old parts returned

Ask and we will hand back whatever we replaced. It is the simplest proof that the job was done.
