Hybrid Transaxle Service
Also called hybrid gearbox oil change
In a hybrid, the transaxle houses the gears together with the electric motors, and it uses a specific fluid that must not be substituted. This service drains and refills with the correct fluid, checks the magnet and drain plug for debris, and inspects for leaks around the motor seals. It is maintenance and inspection. Internal transaxle failure, which shows as whining or a drive fault, needs separate diagnosis and is not fixed by a fluid change.
Signs you need this
- Fluid has never been changed at high mileage
- Whining or humming from the transaxle at steady speed
- Oil weeping around the transaxle seals or driveshafts
- Hesitation or roughness during the change between electric and petrol drive
- Fault codes relating to the hybrid drive motors
Not all of these have to be present, and one of them on its own can mean something else entirely. That is what the diagnosis is for.
What the job includes
- Confirming the exact fluid specification for your model before draining
- Draining and measuring the old fluid, and inspecting it for metal or burning
- Checking the drain plug magnet for wear debris
- Refilling to the correct level with the specified hybrid transaxle fluid
- Inspecting seals and the surrounding area for leaks, and a road test
How we do it
Confirm the fluid
Hybrid transaxles take a specific fluid, and using ordinary automatic transmission oil causes real damage.
Drain and inspect
Old fluid is measured and examined for metal particles or a burnt smell, which would point at internal wear.
Check the magnet
Debris on the drain plug magnet tells us whether this is routine maintenance or the start of something larger.
Refill and test
The correct volume is refilled to level, seals checked for leaks, and the car road tested through electric and petrol drive.
How we work
The same on every job, which is why we can write it down.
Diagnosis before quote
We find the fault first. A price given over the phone for a noise nobody has heard is a guess.
The price is agreed first
You approve the work and the cost before a spanner is picked up. Extra work means another call.
Parts you can check
We tell you whether a part is genuine, OEM, aftermarket or used, and what each one costs.
Old parts returned
Ask and we will hand back whatever we replaced. It is the simplest proof that the job was done.
