Inverter Cooling Inspection
Also called inverter coolant checking
Hybrids have a second cooling circuit, separate from the engine one, that cools the inverter and converter. Its electric pump and small radiator are easy to overlook, and when the pump fails or the coolant is old the inverter overheats and the car drops into limited power. This inspection checks pump operation, coolant level and condition, and radiator airflow. It is an inspection; pump or radiator replacement is quoted separately if needed.
Signs you need this
- Hybrid warning appearing after sustained climbing or slow traffic
- Car dropping into reduced power when it gets hot
- Inverter coolant reservoir below the minimum mark
- Coolant in the inverter reservoir discoloured or dirty
- Stored fault codes relating to inverter temperature
Not all of these have to be present, and one of them on its own can mean something else entirely. That is what the diagnosis is for.
What the job includes
- Confirming the inverter coolant reservoir level and coolant condition
- Checking the electric coolant pump runs and circulates properly
- Inspecting the inverter radiator and its airflow for dust and debris
- Checking hoses and connections for leaks and weeping
- Reading any stored inverter temperature or cooling fault codes
How we do it
Check level and condition
The inverter reservoir is separate from the engine one, and is often found low or with old discoloured coolant.
Test the pump
The electric pump is commanded or observed running, and flow confirmed, since a silent pump means an overheating inverter.
Inspect the radiator
The small inverter radiator is checked for dust packing and debris, which is common given road conditions here.
Report the finding
You are told whether a coolant change, a pump, a radiator clean or nothing at all is what the system needs.
How we work
The same on every job, which is why we can write it down.
Diagnosis before quote
We find the fault first. A price given over the phone for a noise nobody has heard is a guess.
The price is agreed first
You approve the work and the cost before a spanner is picked up. Extra work means another call.
Parts you can check
We tell you whether a part is genuine, OEM, aftermarket or used, and what each one costs.
Old parts returned
Ask and we will hand back whatever we replaced. It is the simplest proof that the job was done.
Book inverter cooling inspection
Fill this in and a person will call you back to confirm the time and the price. Only your name and one way to reach you are required.
You send this
Takes a minute. No payment, no obligation.
We call you
To confirm the car, the time and the location.
Tell us the car and the symptom
We will arrange a mechanic at your location, or a slot at the nearest workshop. No payment until the price is agreed.
