Rim Repair
Also called rim straightening or alloy repair
Rims get bent by potholes and broken road edges, which causes vibration and slow air loss where the tyre no longer seals on the rim. Repair straightens the bend, re-trues the wheel and refinishes kerb scuffing on alloys. A cracked alloy, a wheel bent in more than one direction, or one already repaired several times is not safe to keep in service, and we will tell you rather than straighten it again.
Signs you need this
- Vibration that started right after hitting a pothole
- One tyre slowly losing air with no puncture found
- Visible flat spot or lip on the rim edge
- Kerb scuffing on the outer face of an alloy
- Balance weights keep being needed on the same wheel
Not all of these have to be present, and one of them on its own can mean something else entirely. That is what the diagnosis is for.
What the job includes
- Removing the tyre and checking the rim for cracks before any straightening
- Measuring run-out to see how far out of true the wheel is
- Straightening the bent section with controlled pressure and heat where needed
- Refinishing kerb damage on alloy faces and edges
- Refitting the tyre, rebalancing and checking the wheel holds pressure
How we do it
Inspect for cracks
The tyre is removed and the rim checked all round, because a cracked alloy must be replaced and never straightened.
Measure the run-out
The wheel is spun against a gauge to see how far out of true it is and whether repair is realistic.
Straighten and refinish
The bend is corrected under controlled pressure, and kerb damage on the face is rebuilt and refinished.
Seal and balance
The tyre is refitted, the wheel rebalanced and left inflated to confirm it holds pressure before it goes back on.
How we work
The same on every job, which is why we can write it down.
Diagnosis before quote
We find the fault first. A price given over the phone for a noise nobody has heard is a guess.
The price is agreed first
You approve the work and the cost before a spanner is picked up. Extra work means another call.
Parts you can check
We tell you whether a part is genuine, OEM, aftermarket or used, and what each one costs.
Old parts returned
Ask and we will hand back whatever we replaced. It is the simplest proof that the job was done.
