Tire Rotation

Also called changing tyre positions

Front and rear tyres wear at different rates, and on front wheel drive cars the front pair wears much faster. Rotation moves them in the pattern your car requires so wear evens out and you replace four tyres together rather than two at a time. It extends tyre life but does not fix uneven wear caused by bad alignment or worn suspension, which will simply continue on the new position.

Signs you need this

  • Front tyres visibly more worn than the rears
  • Road noise increasing as the tread wears unevenly
  • It has been a long time since the tyres were last moved
  • Tread depth difference you can see between axles
  • Grip feeling weaker at the front in the rain

Not all of these have to be present, and one of them on its own can mean something else entirely. That is what the diagnosis is for.

What the job includes

  • Measuring tread depth at each position and recording it
  • Checking for wear patterns that point at alignment or suspension faults
  • Moving the wheels in the pattern correct for your car and tyre type
  • Setting pressures for the new positions, which often differ front to rear
  • Torquing wheel nuts and advising when the next rotation is due

How we do it

  1. Measure and record

Tread depth is checked at each wheel so we can see the wear rate and whether rotation is still worthwhile.

  2. Read the wear pattern

Edge wear, centre wear or feathering tells us whether alignment or a suspension part needs attention first.

  3. Rotate in correct pattern

Wheels are moved in the pattern your car and tyre type require, since directional tyres cannot cross sides.

  4. Set and torque

Pressures are adjusted for the new positions and nuts torqued, with the next rotation interval noted for you.

How we work

The same on every job, which is why we can write it down.

  • Diagnosis before quote

We find the fault first. A price given over the phone for a noise nobody has heard is a guess.

  • The price is agreed first

You approve the work and the cost before a spanner is picked up. Extra work means another call.

  • Parts you can check

We tell you whether a part is genuine, OEM, aftermarket or used, and what each one costs.

  • Old parts returned

Ask and we will hand back whatever we replaced. It is the simplest proof that the job was done.
