Bumper Repair
Also called bumper scratch or crack repair
Bumpers are plastic, so they scuff, crack and tear rather than dent. Repair means cleaning back the damage, plastic welding cracks from behind, filling and flexing the surface, then priming and painting with a flexible finish. Most scrapes from gate pillars, parking posts and rear-end nudges are repairable. A bumper with broken mounting tabs across its width, or one shattered in several places, is usually better replaced, and we say so up front.
Signs you need this
- Deep scrapes showing white or black plastic under the colour
- Cracks radiating from an impact point
- Bumper sagging or sitting away from the wing on one side
- Torn or missing mounting tabs behind the bumper edge
- Paint flaking off the bumper while the metal panels are fine
Not all of these have to be present, and one of them on its own can mean something else entirely. That is what the diagnosis is for.
What the job includes
- Removing the bumper where needed to reach the back of the damage
- Plastic welding of cracks and rebuilding of broken mounting tabs
- Sanding, filling with flexible filler and re-profiling the surface
- Adhesion primer, colour matched paint and flexible lacquer
- Refitting with correct alignment to the wings, lights and bonnet
How we do it
Remove and inspect
The bumper usually comes off, because cracks must be welded from behind and mounting tabs checked all along the edge.
Weld and rebuild
Cracks are vee'd out and plastic welded, and broken tabs are rebuilt so the bumper will sit correctly again.
Shape and prime
Flexible filler is applied and sanded to the original profile, then adhesion primer is laid down for plastic.
Paint and refit
Colour matched paint and flexible lacquer are applied, cured, then the bumper is refitted and aligned to the panels.
How we work
The same on every job, which is why we can write it down.
Diagnosis before quote
We find the fault first. A price given over the phone for a noise nobody has heard is a guess.
The price is agreed first
You approve the work and the cost before a spanner is picked up. Extra work means another call.
Parts you can check
We tell you whether a part is genuine, OEM, aftermarket or used, and what each one costs.
Old parts returned
Ask and we will hand back whatever we replaced. It is the simplest proof that the job was done.
