Throttle Body Cleaning
Also called throttle cleaning
The throttle body is the valve that controls how much air enters the engine. Carbon and oil mist build up on the plate and bore, and on the idle passage, which upsets idle speed and makes the car hesitate off the line. Cleaning restores smooth airflow. On cars with an electronic throttle, the idle position has to be relearned afterwards. It does not fix hesitation caused by fuel supply, ignition or sensor faults.

How we do it
Check before cleaning
Codes, idle values and the air filter are checked, since a split intake hose causes identical symptoms.
Open the intake
Ducting is removed and the throttle plate is inspected so the level of deposit can be seen.
Clean the throttle body
Deposits are removed with appropriate cleaner and soft cloth, avoiding the coating on electronic throttle bores.
Relearn the idle
Throttle adaptation is reset with a scan tool and the engine is run until idle settles warm and cold.
