A CVT uses a steel belt or chain running between variable pulleys instead of fixed gears. It depends entirely on the correct fluid maintaining friction and cooling. Fluid degrades with heat and stop-start traffic, and using the wrong specification causes slipping and rapid wear. This service replaces the fluid and filter or strainer and checks for stored faults. It cannot reverse belt or pulley damage that has already happened, and we will tell you if the fluid shows that.

Inspect the old fluid
Colour, smell and any metal glitter on the pan magnet show whether the belt and pulleys are already damaged.
Drain, replace, refill
Fluid is drained, the filter or strainer is replaced, the pan is cleaned, and fresh fluid is filled.
Set level at temperature
Level is checked at the temperature the maker specifies, since CVT fluid level is very sensitive to this.
Reset and road test
Adaptation data is reset where required and a road test confirms smooth take-up without shudder or slip.
